Choppy Markets Follow Strong Up Trends
Certain dates on the calendar invite us to stop and see where we are. What has happened so far this year? The half-way mark is one of those dates.
2020 gave us two very clear trends. The first quarter the trend was down. In the second and third quarters we experienced a strong recovery. Then in the fourth quarter we started to see a rotation in leadership and the sectors which led the market out of the pandemic began to decline and financial stocks, industrials, basic materials and consumer cyclicals began to improve.
The first half of 2021 has been a choppy, sideways market. Year to date the market is up, but the gain has come with prices moving up and down almost daily.
